Chelsea manager José Mourinho suffered only his 15th Premier League defeat on Saturday in what was his 152nd match in the English top flight – the equivalent of four whole seasons.
Crystal Palace were 1-0 winners at Selhurst Park, under manager Tony Pulis. The victory moved the Eagles 5 points above the relegation zone.
José Mourinho ruled his side out of winning the 2013-14 Premier League post-game, with Liverpool 1 point behind with 1 game in hand and Manchester City 2 points behind with 2 games in hand.
The Portuguese manager has won the Premier League title in two of his three full previous seasons at Stamford Bridge – back-to-back in 2004-05 and 2005-06 before finishing runners-up in 2006-07. He left 6 league games into the 2007-08 season, winning only half of his games.
Mourinho suffered only 1 defeat in his first season with Chelsea, 5 in his second, 3 in his third and 1 in the six matches he took charge of before leaving on 20 September 2007.
Chelsea have lost 5 games already this season – losing any of their final six matches would be the most defeats Mourinho has suffered in a single Premier League season.
In ten full seasons as a manager with FC Porto, Chelsea, Internazionale and Real Madrid previously, Mourinho has never finished outside the top two. Should Liverpool and Manchester City win their games in hand on Chelsea they will push the Blues down to third.
One surprising statistic are the teams that José Mourinho has lost to during his four seasons in the Premier League. Or the managers in charge of those teams.
