Things haven’t gone well for Ryan Sessegnon since he arrived at Tottenham Hotspur and his future in North London may be uncertain as he’s not commanding a starting place under yet another manager.
The 21-year-old joined Spurs on a six-year deal from Fulham in 2019 for £25m and has made only 14 appearances in all competitions. Sessegnon has amassed only 916 minutes of playing time at Tottenham and has been largely frozen out under Mauricio Pochettino, Jose Mourinho and now Nuno Espirito Santo.
Sergio Reguilon has been a regular at left-back while Ben Davies provides backup, which is why Danny Rose ended up on the periphery. Now Sessegnon is getting the same treatment and he may have to consider his options if he continues to be left out.
The 21-year-old has made two appearances for Tottenham this season, both of which came in August’s Europa League qualifiers. He’s featured once for the reserves in the Premier League 2 and has been on the bench for the first-team sporadically.
Sessegnon hasn’t made a Premier League appearance since January 2020 and has only made the bench twice in the league this campaign. The best American online casinos are now predicting the youngster will leave Tottenham in the next transfer window.
He was left out of the matchday squad in Spurs’ 1-0 win over Manchester City (August 15), was an unused substitute in their 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers (August 22) and Watford (August 29), but he’s missed their 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace (September 11) and Chelsea (September 19) due to a knock.
Sessegnon was loaned out to TSG Hoffenheim to get more first-team opportunities and may have to consider another temporary move when the winter transfer window opens if he’s not in Nuno’s plans.
With Reguilon and Davies ahead of Sessegnon in the pecking order, it’s hard to see how the England U21 international will get chances at Tottenham. He can’t afford to waste away on the bench or in the reserves, so something needs to give.
