Kieran Tierney has been a regular under Mikel Arteta this season and is turning in brilliant performances, so it was only a matter of time before clubs started to pay attention. According to Cule Mania, Barcelona want the 24-year-old to replace Jordi Alba in the near future while Real Madrid view him as Marcelo’s successor, but the veracity of these claims are doubtful.
Tierney joined the Gunners from Celtic in 2019 and has gone on to make 82 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals with 12 assists. The Scottish international has struggled with injuries in his three years at the Emirates Stadium but looks better than ever upon making his return. Tierney’s asking price is £50m, but would Arsenal really sell an important player?
Barca have Alba, Alex Balde and Sergino Dest who can operate at left-back, but Dest is a natural right-back while Balde has spent a lot of the season on the periphery. Real have Marcelo, Ferland Mendy and Miguel Gutierrez who can play at left-back, but Mendy has already replaced Marcelo, so Los Blancos don’t need another option.
Tierney signed a long-term deal with Arsenal over the summer and spoke about his happiness with the Gunners in an interview months ago, so it doesn’t appear he’ll be on his way out any time soon. Should Barca and Real make an offer Arsenal can’t refuse, that could change.
Summary
Arsenal would be foolish to sell Tierney and the 24-year-old has no intention of leaving just yet, so a move to La Liga seems unlikely this summer. Supporters shouldn’t be worried about losing their left-back as he’s contracted for another four-and-a-half years.
Tierney would cost too much for cash-strapped Barca and Real wouldn’t spend £50m on a player that isn’t walking into their starting eleven either, so Cule Mania’s report should be taken with a pinch of salt..
