Marcus Rashford has an uncertain future at Manchester United as he’s struggled for form and playing time under Ralf Rangnick this season. The 24-year-old isn’t holding down a starting place, nor is he performing well when called upon, so a departure looks on the cards this summer.
Rashford has 15 months remaining on his contract at Old Trafford, though he has the option to extend that by 12 months, but he may not put pen to paper on a long-term extension if he’s going to remain on the periphery.
Rashford could be axed from the national team squad ahead of March’s friendlies too, so his struggles at Old Trafford are negatively affecting his international prospects. And it’s because of this that the 24-year-old might seek greener pastures.
Todofichajes say the England international is unhappy in Manchester and is considering a move away. Newcastle United have unsurprisingly been linked following their lucrative takeover by Public Investment Fund, PCP Capital Partners and RB Sports & Media, but Paddy Kenny believes Tottenham Hotspur could be a destination.
He told Football Insider: “I have no doubt, if Rashford leaves, he will stay in the Premier League. They will be making a rival stronger. He’s good enough to play for Chelsea or Tottenham, and I could see him there.” But given Tottenham’s current options in attack, do they really need Rashford?
Spurs have Heung-min Son, Steven Bergwijn, Lucas Moura and Dejan Kulusevski who could turn his loan move permanent this summer, so they aren’t exactly short on options. They may not want to spend in excess of €60m (£50m) on a player with only four goals in 18 Premier League games this season either, so Kenny might be wrong with his claim.
Rashford finds himself behind Jadon Sancho and Anthony Elanga in the wide areas, while Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani get the nod up front, so it’s no wonder he’s unhappy. And with the Red Devils expected to sign another striker this summer, the writing may be on the wall. Spurs may not be the ones to capitalise on the situation, however.
