1 goal & 4 assists in 38 games, dropped by 2 managers – Liverpool won’t sign £25.3m man [Opinion]

Liverpool aren’t short of forwards with Sadio Mane, Luis Diaz, Takumi Minamino, Mohamed Salah and Harvey Elliot, so it’s surprising they’re being linked with Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Adama Traore.

The 26-year-old is currently on loan at Barcelona and doesn’t appear to have a future back in the Midlands, so he could be on the hunt for a new club when his loan is up – Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid have been credited with an interest recently.

It doesn’t seem likely that Traore turn his move permanent at Barca as he’s struggling for playing time under Xavi, so that might be why El Nacional believe Liverpool could return for him.

The Spanish international made 23 appearances across the board for Wolves before going back to Barca, scoring just once and failing to make an assist. Traore was eventually dropped by Bruno Lage due to poor form and made his last five appearances from the bench.

At Barca, he’s made 15 appearances in all competitions, notching four assists but failing to score. Traore has featured in nine of their 12 La Liga games since joining but has amassed just 305 minutes of football under Xavi. The 26-year-old started in three of his first four outings in Spain but has since played a supporting role.

Traore’s last five league appearances have come from the bench, and he’s been an unused substitute on three occasions. Since February, the loanee has played for just 63 minutes, so Barca aren’t likely to sign him for £25.3m (€30m).

Liverpool were interested in the talented wide-man back in 2015 without landing his signature, so he’s been on their radar for many years. But seeing how poor his output has been (1 goal and 4 assists in 38 games) this season, coupled with being dropped by two different managers, Liverpool might turn their attentions elsewhere. They have enough options in attack right now.
