6 apps in 2022, axed by new manager, lost 25% value – Man Utd man has uncertain future [Opinion]

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is one of many Manchester United players with an uncertain future. The 24-year-old is no longer commanding a starting place, has seen his market value drop by 25% and may not fit the mould of United’s future manager.

Wan-Bissaka joined the Red Devils on a five-year deal from Crystal Palace in 2019 and has gone on to make 126 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals with 10 assists. The former England youth international was a regular in his first two years at Old Trafford but now finds himself on the periphery due to poor form.

Man Utd appointed Ralf Rangnick as interim manager until the end of the season on November 28, 2021. Wan-Bissaka hasn’t had a consistent run of games since his arrival and may find playing time equally as hard to come by when Erik ten Haag takes over in the summer.

The 24-year-old has made 20/35 Premier League appearances this season, only six of which have come in 2022. Wan-Bissaka has spent most of this year as an unused substitute or out of the matchday squad entirely while Diogo Dalot gets the nod ahead of him.

His market value has taken a hit too. The Englishman was worth £36m in June 2021 but is now estimated to be £27m. And with Ten Haag reportedly wanting Noussair Mazraoui as his new right-back next season, the writing is on the wall for Wan-Bissaka.

It remains to be seen where he’d go, however, as United will try to recoup much of the £49.5m spent three years ago. Given Wan-Bissaka’s form this season, there isn’t likely to be a lot of interest. United’s squad is full of deadwood that are proving difficult to offload due to their lofty valuation or wages, and the 24-year-old might become another example if he’s surplus to requirements.
