Report: Liverpool want £16.2m Origi replacement with more goals than Salah in 2022

Liverpool aren’t short of strikers with Roberto Firmino, Divock Origi, Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota able to lead the line. They’re 1st in the Premier League table for goals (86) and have three players in the top-five of the scoring charts this season, but Fichajes believe Jurgen Klopp is on the hunt for another centre-forward.

The Reds are sure to have many players on their shortlist this summer, but Enes Unal is believed to be an attainable transfer target. The 24-year-old joined Getafe from Villarreal in 2020 and has gone on to make 61 appearances in all competitions, scoring 20 goals with three assists.

This season, Unal boasts 15 goals from 32 La Liga games and has scored more in 2022 (10 goals) than Mohamed Salah (7 goals), so he would be a good option for Klopp to have. The Turkish international, who has represented his country on 26 occasions, may not break the bank either.

CIES Football Observatory value Unal at €17.1m (£14.3m) while Transfermarkt say he’s worth £16.2m. Getafe’s record sale is Marc Cucurella (£16.2m to Brighton & Hove Albion in 2021/22), so it might cost Liverpool around that figure to sign the 24-year-old.

Unal will be a significant upgrade on Origi who looks set to leave Anfield after eight years. The 27-year-old joined from LOSC Lille in 2014 and made 174 appearances in all competitions, scoring 41 goals with 17 assists.

Origi has featured in only 17/52 games across the board this season, scoring six goals with three assists. The Belgian international has amassed just 572 minutes from a possible 4680, so the writing has been on the wall for some time.

If Liverpool could sign Unal for little more than the £11m they paid for Origi, that would be very good business. The 24-year-old has been prolific than any Reds player this year, but it remains to be seen if their alleged interest will translate into an official bid.
