Newcastle United are in ‘pole position’ to sign Timo Werner should Chelsea decide to allow the striker to head out on loan to a fellow Premier League club, according to iNews.

The Magpies have already registered their interest in the German international and are willing to pay a proportion of his wages in order to bring him to St James’ Park.

Chelsea are said to be in no rush to make a decision over the striker’s future at Stamford Bridge and are instead focusing on their own incoming transfer activity before anything else happens.

Werner, 26, a prolific scorer at RB Leipzig found the back of the net 93 times in 158 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit (transfermarkt), but has only registered 23 goals in 89 outings for Chelsea since joining in the summer of 2020.

Newcastle could give Werner the chance to get his confidence back and become their main striking option, compared to Chelsea where he is surrounded by an abundance of top class talent.

A forward such as Werner needs to be playing week in, week out to get the consistency to their game which is something that he has not been regularly afforded in Thomas Tuchel’s side.

With the World Cup on the horizon in November, Werner will want to be firing on all cylinders, but his fate could rest upon on what Chelsea do in the transfer market in the next month.
