Aston Villa made ‘eye-watering’ approach for 50-year-old to replace Gerrard

Aston Villa made an ‘eye-watering’ approach to Mauricio Pochettino to become their new manager, according to Daily Telegraph football news correspondent Matt Law.

Villa have begun their search for a new manager having parted company with Steven Gerrard late last night on the back of their disappointing 3-0 defeat at Premier League newcomers Fulham.

The result saw Villa with just nine points and two victories to their name from the opening eleven matches of the Premier League campaign.

Law revealed on Twitter that Villa had tried to tempt Pochettino with a lucrative offer to take over the managerial reigns, however, the Argentine is instead happy to wait for another managerial opportunities to arise.

It appears that Pochettino is not prepared to risk his reputation by rolling up his sleeves and attempting to turn around Villa’s hopes.   After a relatively disappointing stint at PSG, he will be fully aware that his next managerial post has to be a success if he wants to remain as being considered to be one of the most attractive coaches out there.
