Liverpool could be prepared to be one of the clubs to lead the race for Frenkie De Jong, should the midfielder decide to quit Barcelona in January, according to ESPN.
The Dutch international was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United during the summer transfer window which would have seen him reunite with former boss Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford, only for a move to fail to materialise.
United are also said to be prepared to renew their interest in the 25-year-old, while Chelsea who also made advances for the player during the summer are also expected to be in the mix.
The Catalan giants are facing the prospect of failing to qualify to the knockout stages of the Champions League and has started only five matches in all competitions this season.
De Jong decided to remain at the Nou Camp this summer despite Barcelona’s eagerness to move him on to help balance their books.

De Jong is exactly the type of player Liverpool need to reinvigorate their midfield, however with Chelsea and United both also interested coupled with Barcelona’s financial situation it is likely that they would want to drive the price as high as possible.
