Man Utd ready to switch attention to ex-Chelsea man after losing out on Gakpo

Old Trafford

Manchester United are ready to switch their attention to former Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham after they lost out in the race for Cody Gakpo, according to Spanish news outlet Fichajes.

Bitter rivals Liverpool landed the Dutch international for a relatively cheap initial £35million transfer fee from PSV Eindhoven.

United boss Erik ten Hag was reported to have spoken to Gakpo on four separate occasions about the prospect of moving to Old Trafford before the Merseysiders hijacked the deal (Football Insider).

Abraham was in impressive form during his maiden season with Roma last year but has found goals harder to come by during the current campaign with just four in twenty appearances in all competitions (transfermarkt).

It is said that Abraham is on United’s radar, along with Joao Felix, Goncalo Ramos and Rafael Leao.

United are in need of some attacking reinforcements this month after the departure of Ronaldo, has left a void in front of goal.

Abraham had a decent season prior to this campaign but given his current form, it would be wise of United to cast their net elsewhere if they want a forward to hit the ground running in the race for a top four spot.
