Aurelio De Laurentiis wants Jurgen Klopp to replace Luciano Spalletti at Napoli

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis wants Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to replace Luciano Spalletti, reports La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Serie A reigning champions are set to lose their manager at the end of the season.

Spalletti’s contract ends in the summer, and while Napoli tried to activate a clause to extend his stay until 2024, the 64-year-old is ready to move on.

De Laurentiis is already planning for life without their manager and dreams of appointing Klopp.

He was keen on bringing the Liverpool boss to Stadio Diego Armando Maradona in 2013 but the move did not work out.

Napoli ended up appointing Rafa Benitez at the time and have also reached out to the former Reds boss.

Klopp is under contract at the Merseyside club until 2026 and is not expected to leave before then.

The German joined Liverpool in 2015 initially on a three-year deal as Brendan Rodgers’ replacement.

He signed another extension last April and has established himself as a club legend.

Klopp led the Anfield club to their first Premier League title in 2019-20 having won the Champions League in 2018-19.

Liverpool have reached two other Champions League finals (2017-18 and 2021-22) under the 55-year-old, losing both to Real Madrid.

The Reds have also narrowly missed out on the Premier League title twice, losing it to Manchester City by a point in 2021-22 and 2018-19.

The club are not open to losing their much-loved manager anytime soon, and Napoli have to look elsewhere.

Despite finishing this season without silverware, Liverpool trust Klopp to get them back to winning ways next term.
