Liverpool have signed Brighton & Hove Albion star Alexis Mac Allister for £35m

Liverpool have completed the signing of Alexis Mac Allister for £35 million, reports Fabrizio Romano.

The Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder is now set to join the Reds after completing a medical.

The fee Liverpool are paying for the Argentina international is shocking given that several earlier reports had claimed they would only be able to sign him for £70m.

Brighton knocked back £70m from Arsenal for Moises Caicedo in January and are asking for more to sell him this summer.

Many expected Mac Allister to cost a similar fee, but Liverpool appear to have been able to negotiate a shrewder deal due to a clause in his contract.

They are getting a huge 50% discount for the 24-year-old World Cup winner, which is a huge boost.

Manager Jurgen Klopp has a major squad rebuilding job on his hands following the departures of Roberto Firmino, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner.

Liverpool need to splash the cash in the coming weeks, and landing one of the best players in the Premier League for just £35m is a huge bargain.

Reds owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) are unable to compete with the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea in the transfer market.

As a result, Klopp needs to cut his coat according to his size this summer.

Mac Allister can play as a left winger, a central midfielder, an attacking midfielder and a defensive midfielder.

Liverpool need such a versatile and quality player to get back to challenging for silverware next term.

The Argentine ended the campaign with ten goals and two assists in 35 league games, and signing him for £35m is nothing but a steal.
