Manchester United in hunt for Ethan Nwaneri with Arsenal exit expected

Manchester United are in the hunt for Arsenal attacking midfielder Ethan Nwaneri, reports The Athletic.

The 16-year-old is expected to leave the north London club this month having refused to sign a new deal.

His schoolboy registration is about to end, and there are serious doubts he will extend his stay.

It appears it is too late for Nwaneri to agree to an extension, and Man United are monitoring the situation.

However, the Red Devils are not the only ones trying to snap up the teenage sensation.

Chelsea and Manchester City are also keeping tabs on the attacker, who became the Premier League’s youngest player after coming on as a substitute against Brentford last September aged 15 years and 181 days.

Nwaneri will not be joining the first-team at Man United immediately if a move works out.

However, he will be a high-profile acquisition at academy level and could force his way into Erik ten Hag’s plans sooner rather than later.

Arsenal will not be keen to lose such a talented youngster, especially to a direct rival.

The England under-17 attacker impressed at the European Under-17 Championship in Hungary in May, bagging the winner against Croatia in the group stage.

The Gunners academy graduate made his debut for their under-18s aged 14.

Pipping competition to his services will be a steal for Man United, but they may need to offer better terms and a guarantee of a quicker pathway to first-team football to have a chance.

Nwaneri played against Slough Town in a pre-season friendly last year and is hungry for more senior football.

Whether the Red Devils can immediately offer him that remains to be seen, but he could soon be breaking more Premier League records if he keeps impressing at this rate.
