Paris Saint-Germain target Ousmane Dembele as Kylian Mbappe replacement

Paris Saint-Germain will look to acquire the services of Ousmane Dembele if Kylian Mbappe departs the club this summer, according to AS.

Mbappe could be on his way out after informing PSG he would not be triggering his one-year extension, leaving him on course to become a free agent at the end of the 2023/24 campaign.

In a bid not to lose their talisman for free next year, Les Parisiens have put Mbappe up for sale, excluding him from their pre-season tour to Japan and recently accepting a whopping €300 million offer from Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Hilal.

Mbappe has since turned down a potential move to the Middle East as he wants to join Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Amid the uncertainty surrounding Mbappe’s future, PSG are now eyeing a move for Ousmane Dembele, who was previously linked with a switch to Parc des Princes.

Dembele is currently in the final year of his Barcelona contract, but the La Liga champions are working towards tying him down further, albeit all to no avail so far.

The 26-year-old endured another injury-plagued season last time out, featuring in just 25 of his side’s 38 league matches as Xavi Hernandez’s men strolled to league glory.

However, Dembele still managed to rack up 12 direct goal contributions – second only to Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha in the Barcelona squad.

Returning to his home nation, where he featured for Stade Rennais during the 2015/16 campaign, could seriously appeal to Dembele as he enters his prime years.

Dembele has a €50m release clause that expires at the end of July, leaving PSG with just three more days to trigger it, after which they would have to negotiate fresh terms with Barcelona.
