Paris Saint-Germain have not given up on signing Tottenham Hotspur superstar contract rebel Harry Kane this summer.
French news publication L’Equipe claims that the record Ligue 1 champions are trying to convince Tottenham chief Daniel Levy to sell the wantaway striker.
Spurs have been in a fight to keep their headline performer in North London since the start of the summer transfer window amid concrete interest from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.
Kane has been the major talking point of Tottenham’s summer business, with the North Londoners rejecting two bids from Bayern, who are relentless in their pursuit of the talismanic striker.
Thus far, Die Rekordmeister have not been rivalled for Kane’s signature, with other European heavy spenders occupied by their various top targets this summer.
However, PSG have re-emerged as a strong contender to land Kane’s signature after initiating contact with Tottenham over a potential transfer.
Reports had previously emerged that the striker had no interest in a move to the French capital, having given Bayern his word that he would join if they can agree on a transfer fee with Spurs.
However, Al-Khelaifi has a cordial relationship with Levy, and both parties have been in regular contact over Kane’s potential transfer, but a formal bid has not been lodged.
PSG are now trying to convince the player that a move to Parc des Princes would be good for his career, and they will not make an official bid to Tottenham until they get Kane’s green light.
The first meeting between PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi and Kane’s entourage reportedly dates back to last month.
But the Ligue 1 champions have accelerated their efforts to sign the England international striker, who is now more inclined to an adventure abroad.
Levy is under pressure to sell Kane, who has one year left on his existing contract. Super agent Pini Zahavi is also trying to convince Levy that it is in his best interest to sell Kane to PSG.
Levy wants more than £100m for the club’s all-time highest goalscorer, and it is up to PSG and Bayern to stump up the cash – although the Germans currently have the upper hand in what is set to be an intriguing transfer battle.
The latest news from Germany is that Bayern are unconcerned about PSG’s approach, but will undoubtedly be aware that any delays in meeting Tottenham’s asking price will only give PSG more time to convince the player, and possibly end up in a bidding war with the Ligue 1 champions.
