Al-Ittihad have a concrete interest in signing Liverpool star Mohamed Salah

Saudi Pro League club Al Ittihad have reignited their interest in Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah, reports The Athletic journalist David Ornstein.

The Egypt international was linked with a move to the Saudi Arabian club back in August, but his agent denied it.

Al Ittihad are not giving up on the Liverpool star, but it remains to be seen how the 31-year-old feels about joining them and whether a deal could materialise.

Spanish sources reported it earlier today, and the reports indeed have legs with the Athletic now confirming it.

Salah is not an achievable target for the Saudis this year after signing a new three-year contract last summer, which made him the highest-paid player in the club’s history on around £350,000 per week.

However, a move could be possible next summer if Liverpool fail to secure Champions League football for the second season running.

Liverpool have already lost Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to the moneybags of Saudi Arabia, and Al Ittihad will be ready to offer Salah significantly more than what he currently earns at Anfield.

Fabinho joined them in a £40 million deal, while Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante have also been snapped up, but the Reds cannot afford to lose their highest goalscorer in Premier League history right now.

Al-Ittihad could have decided to return for Salah right now because they fancy their chances of getting a deal done, and while a deal looks unlikely, nothing can be ruled out in football.

The Egyptian has enjoyed his time at Liverpool since joining from AS Roma in 2017, bagging 187 goals in 307 games across all competitions and winning the Premier League and Champions League with them.

The three-time Premier League Golden Boot winner has won it all in England and Europe and a move to Saudi could be very tempting, and it will be intriguing to see how this goes as we enter into the last week of the summer transfer window.
