Aston Villa have made an official bid to sign 31-year-old World Cup winner Marcos Acuna

Villa Park

Aston Villa have reportedly made a bid for Sevilla left-back Marcos Acuna.

However, according to a report from Estadio Deportivo, the €5 million (£4.3 million) offer from Villa for the 31-year-old has been rejected.

Villans boss Unai Emery is clearly keen to bolster his left-back ranks at Villa Park in the summer transfer window.

And he obviously wants to bring in someone with bundles of experience as well. Acuna certainly has exactly that. The 31-year-old won the World Cup with Argentina in December.

And with more quality competition and cover required for Lucas Digne and Alex Moreno, Emery is clearly trying to be proactive in the market…

Estadio Deportivo reckon that Villa have had a £4.3 million offer rejected for the experienced Argentinian ace.

It is said that Aston Villa would have to raise their opening offer for Acuna significantly if they want to sign him this summer.

The South American is a really tenacious tackler and his playing style is quintessentially Argentinian. So he’d be ideally suited to the physical nature of Premier League football.

However, it must be said that moving to the Premier League from La Liga at 31 and succeeding will be a really tough ask. Emery has more pressing priorities than signing another left-back between now and the end of the window.

And it would be a big surprise if Aston Villa significantly upped their offer for Marcos Acuna.
