Chelsea want to sign Manchester City midfielder Cole Palmer

Chelsea want to sign Manchester City attacking midfielder Cole Palmer before the summer transfer deadline on Friday, according to Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Blues see the 21-year-old as the ‘best solution’ as manager Mauricio Pochettino looks to bolster his attack one more time.

Palmer has struggled for regular playing chances at Man City given the plethora of attacking options available to manager Pep Guardiola.

The England youth international started just two Premier League games last term and once in their Champions League triumph, and Chelsea could tempt with him guarantees of regular chances.

While Guardiola is arguably the best manager on the planet, Pochettino has a better track record when it comes to bringing the best out of young players in the Premier League, and Palmer could be tempted to move to the Stamford Bridge club.

He has come off the bench once in the league this term but impressed in the UEFA Super Cup against Sevilla and the Community Shield against Arsenal earlier this month, grabbing the only goal for Man City in both games.

The left winger will be hoping to get more playing opportunities, but his chances of forcing his way into the starting XI at the Etihad Stadium club are as slim as they come.

Chelsea lost Christopher Nkunku to a long-term injury in pre-season and are not short of quality options in attack, but Palmer could fancy his chances of breaking into the starting line-up, and Pochettino appears to be a fan.

The Blues will not be interested in signing a player if the Argentine has not approved, and while leaving Man City for a club not playing European football is unlikely to be appealing, Palmer could be ready to sacrifice it all for a move to where he can become a very important player immediately.
