Newcastle look set to miss out on a £12 million deal to sign Estudiantes attacker Benjamin Rollheiser this summer.
According to a report from the Sun, the 23-year-old Argentinian is closing in on a move to Zenit St Petersburg instead of Newcastle in the summer transfer window.
That’s a big blow for Eddie Howe, and it’s back to the drawing board for the Toon boss in his search for a talented new winger.
Newcastle are in great shape, and have made some fantastic signings since the takeover from the Saudis. However, there are a couple more additions needed at St James’ Park, if Howe is to guide the Magpies to a successful campaign.
One specific player needed at Newcastle is a winger after Allan Saint-Maximin’s exit. However, it seems as though Rollheiser will not be replacing him…
Eddie Howe dealt big blow with £12 million Argentinian attacker Benjamin Rollheiser set to snub Newcastle move
The Sun claim that the South American forward is set to join Zenit in the summer transfer window rather than move to Tyneside.
So it will very much be a case of ‘onto the next one’ for Howe and co.
The Magpies manager needs at least one more signing before the transfer window slams shut on September 1st.
It’s a shame that Newcastle won’t be signing Rollheiser. He is an elite talent, albeit a very raw one, and there is a good chance that he would have reached the very top with the Toon under the guidance of Howe.
That said, Newcastle do not hang around in the transfer market and will undoubtedly swoop in for an alternative target to the Estudiantes forward with prompt efficiency.
