Fluminense have refused to sell midfielder Andre to Liverpool this summer due to their progress in the Copa Libertadores, with president Mario Bittencourt insisting on keeping him, reports Brazilian outlet GE Globo.
Reds manager Jurgen Klopp has bolstered his midfield ranks with the additions of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo this summer after losing James Milner, Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
However, the German is still eyeing another player in the position and Liverpool have offered Fluminense €30 million for Andre, which surpasses their current transfer record for outgoing transfers – the €17m they got from AS Roma for Gerson in 2015.
However, the Brazilian club are not tempted as they want the 22-year-old available for their quarter-final tie against Paraguayan side Olimpia in the Copa Libertadores – the South American equivalent of the Champions League – and boost their chances of making it to the semi-finals.
Andre has featured in every of their continental games so far this term, playing a huge role in getting them this far and also recently earning a call-up and his debut with the Brazil national team as a result of his performances.
He has also been selected for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers in September against Peru and Bolivia, and Liverpool will need to look elsewhere for the midfield reinforcement Klopp craves or wait until January to have any chance of getting Andre.
The youngster has won four trophies for his side since making his Serie A debut in 2020 and also emerged as Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A best newcomer in 2021, making the Team of the Year the following year and picking up the Bola de Prata (Golden Ball award) for being the best player.
Andre would have been a perfect signing for the Liverpool midfield right now, but Fluminense are not in a rush to cash in on him, and they know he could be worth much more than what the Anfield club are currently offering if he keeps improving at this rate.
