Lazio could reach an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur over a deal for French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris today, according to Gianluca di Marzio.
The Serie A club and Spurs have been in talks about a possible move for the 36-year-old for weeks, and while the Italian club were pushing for a free transfer, Tottenham want a small fee, and it appears both clubs are close to reaching an agreement after positive talks from yesterday.
However, whether Lloris, who earns £100,000 per week, is keen on the move remains to be seen as he does not want to be a No 2 somewhere.
Lazio boast last season’s Serie A goalkeeper of the year in Ivan Provedel, and the Spurs star may not fancy his chances of displacing him.
The Italian goalie helped his club finish second in the Italian top-flight last term, keeping 20 clean sheets and conceding just 30 goals in 38 league appearances.
The North London club have already moved on from Lloris having signed Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli in the summer, with the Italian making his Premier League debut in the 2-2 draw against Brentford last weekend.
The former France international joined Tottenham from Lyon in the summer of 2012 and has since gone on to make 447 official appearances across all competitions.
He is in the last year of his contract, and should he decide against moving to Lazio, a move to Saudi Arabia could be on the cards, assuming the interest from earlier in the summer is revived.
However, it appears that Lloris wants to remain in Europe for now, and Spurs are keen to let him go for a decent fee as a new era begins under manager Ange Postecoglou.
They have seen three players leave this summer having signed eight others, and more departures and arrivals are expected before the transfer window shuts.
