A deal to take Genk striker Joseph Paintsil to Leeds United has stalled due to a dispute over his exit terms, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.
However, his preference is to move to the Elland Road club and while Leeds are now looking at other targets, they continue to keep an eye on his situation.
There is a financial wrangling between Paintsil and Genk over bonuses potentially owed to him.
The 25-year-old wants it resolved before leaving, and Leeds know there are no guarantees they can sign him between now and the summer transfer deadline on Friday night given that no significant progress has been made.
The West Yorkshire club are willing to pay in the region of £10 million for Paintsil, but things are at a standstill right now despite attempts to push the deal forward in the past 24 hours.
Their bid for the Ghana international attacker is yet to succeed but manager Daniel Farke remains desperate to bolster his attacking ranks and could move on to other targets.
Leeds are also keen on Bayer Leverkusen attacker Nadiem Amiri, and the German and his representatives reportedly travelled to England for talks with the club yesterday.
However, they have returned to Germany without the 26-year-old undergoing a medical or indicating his intention to accept the offer to move to the Championship club, and it remains to be seen if a deal will go through.
Leeds could end up missing out on Paintsil and Amiri, and they will need to quickly move on and go after more realistic targets as they do not have a lot of time left.
They need to further strengthen their ranks in the final third to boost their automatic promotion chances, and they must ensure they land the right players for the huge task ahead.
