Bayer Leverkusen attacker Nadiem Amiri and his representatives travelled to England for talks with Leeds United yesterday, according to The Athletic journalist Phil Hay.
However, they have returned to Germany without the 26-year-old undergoing a medical or indicating his intention to accept their offer.
Leeds negotiated a £5 million fee with the Bundesliga club for Amiri last week, and while the club are willing to sell him to the Elland Road outfit, the move depends on the player, and it remains to be seen if he will agree to move to the English Championship.
The German attacker had earlier rejected joining the West Yorkshire club and had chosen Marseille, but he changed his mind and the decision to fly into England with his representatives appeared to have handed the Whites a huge boost.
However, Amiri is yet to make up his mind, and Leeds are unsure of landing him before Friday’s transfer deadline with their bid for him yet to succeed.
Manager Daniel Farke wants to bolster his attack before the summer window closes but may need to start considering other options with the Leverkusen star taking forever to make up his mind.
Leeds picked up their first league victory of the season against Ipswich Town on Saturday having drawn two and lost one of their earlier three games, and their latest summer addition Joel Piroe and the returning Wilfried Gnonto both found the back of the net in the 4-3 win.
They face Salford City in the League Cup/Carabao Cup tonight before returning to league action on Saturday against Sheffield Wednesday at Elland Road, and Farke will hope he has landed all his targets by then to give his side a realistic chance of finishing the season in the automatic promotion places.
