Liverpool are reportedly keen to sign Arthur Theate from Rennes this summer.
According to a report from L’Equipe, Arthur Theate is firmly on the radar of Reds boss Jurgen Klopp in the summer transfer window.
Klopp is said to be on the hunt for a new central defender before the transfer window slams shut on September 1st.
The Belgium international who plays for Rennes appears to be attracting attention from Liverpool this summer.
The 23-year-old is a centre-back by trade, but can also operate as a left-back. With Klopp’s need for more competition in the central defensive department and cover required for left-backs Andy Robertson and Konstantinos Tsimikas, signing Theate would certainly make sense…
Liverpool are now keen to sign 23-year-old Belgium international Arthur Theate
L’Equipe reckon that the Rennes defender could be heading to Anfield this summer. He would be a very decent squad addition for the Reds but hardly a marquee signing that the fans are craving.
Theate is a very solid player nonetheless.
In 35 Ligue 1 games for Rennes last season, the 23-year-old bagged four goals. During those appearances, Theate averaged 0.8 tackles, 0.9 interceptions and 3.2 clearances per match (Who Scored).
The defender made 73 passes per match and recorded a completion rate of 89.6% (Who Scored).
Arthur Theate is extremely mobile and is quick along the ground. As mentioned earlier, if Liverpool sign him he’d be a solid player for Klopp, there’s no doubt about that, especially if he’s available for a reasonable fee.
I’m sure most Reds fans would prefer to see the German make a move for a more illustrious name though.
