Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara is closing in on a £5.5 million move to Leeds United after the English Championship club stepped up their efforts in the last 24 hours, according to the Scottish Sun.
The Whites manager Daniel Farke has been chasing the Finland international all summer and is desperate to bring him to Elland Road before the transfer window shuts.
Negotiations are now at an advanced stage with Kamara set to leave the Scottish Premiership club for hundred times the £50,000 he was signed for in January 2019.
The 27-year-old joined Rangers from Dundee but could soon be on his way back to England after spending five years with Arsenal as a youth player.
Kamara helped the Light Blues win the Scottish Premiership title in 2020-21 and the Scottish Cup in 2021-22, and was also a key player as they reached the final of the Europa League in 2021-22.
The 2022 Finnish Footballer of the Year was a key player under Steven Gerrard and Giovanni van Bronckhorst but has fallen out of favour since manager Micheal Beale took charge.
Kamara recently returned to Rangers’ Auchenhowie base after being told to stay away from the club this summer while his future was being sorted out.
While Leeds are favourites to sign him, they face competition from fellow Championship clubs Middlesbrough and Coventry City, and the trio have recently held talks with Kamara’s representatives.
The West Yorkshire club are eyeing an immediate return to the Premier League after relegating after three seasons at the end of 2022-23, and they have started life back in the Championship with two draws and a loss in their opening three games of the season.
Farke wants to bolster his midfield with the addition of the experienced Kamara having already added Ethan Ampadu, Karl Darlow and Sam Byram to his ranks so far this summer.
