Newcastle are set to miss out on the signing of Serhou Guirassy, at least for a bargain fee.
According to a report from Kicker, Guirassy has a €15 million (£13 million) release clause inserted into his contract with Stuttgart, and Newcastle were keen to sign him.
The 27-year-old striker’s clause has now expired though, handing Stuttgart far more power when it comes to negotiating.
Magpies boss Eddie Howe is seemingly on the hunt for a new forward this summer, in order to add more variety to his attacking options.
If he is to bring Guirassy to St James’ Park though, he’ll have his work cut out…
Newcastle dealt major blow to their hopes of signing £13 million ‘deadly’ striker
Kicker are claiming that the Toon have missed the deadline to sign Guirassy for just £13 million, so will now have to pay much more if they want to bring him to Tyneside this summer.
Allowing the Guinean’s release clause to expire is a truly strange move from Newcastle because he could have been a real bargain signing for the north-east outfit.
The Scottish Sun described Guirassy as ‘deadly’. Standing at 6ft 2in tall, the Guinea international is very strong in the air and is ideally suited to Premier League football.
The Stuttgart striker bagged 14 goals in 29 games last season. He always puts in a real shift and has impressive pace in his arsenal as well. He’d be a shrewd addition for the Magpies and would offer Eddie Howe a completely different option through the middle.
However, if Newcastle really want to sign Serhou Guirassy, they will now have to make a serious offer to Stuttgart.
