Tottenham Hotspur are considering appointing Barcelona director of football Mateu Alemany as their new director of football, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The 60-year-old will leave the La Liga club on September 2 and could move to Spurs to replace Fabio Paratici.
Alemany was close to joining Aston Villa in June but remained with Barca and could finally move to the Premier League next month.
Paratici resigned from his role as the managing director of football at Tottenham in April after losing an appeal against his two-and-a-half-year worldwide ban from football as part of Juventus’ false accounting scandal.
The Italian has remained involved at Spurs in a consultancy role after he was given limited scope as part of FIFA’s lifting of some elements of his ban, playing a role in the move for Alejo Veliz and also laying the groundwork for the transfer of Guglielmo Vicario with his pre-ban efforts in monitoring the goalkeeper.
Paratici was spotted at the Gtech Community Stadium on Sunday when Tottenham took on Brentford but could be relieved of his consultancy role totally if Alemany is appointed.
The former RCD Mallorca president and general director at Valencia CF has the much-needed and huge experience Spurs could do with right now, and he can help improve their fortunes if appointed as the next director of football.
The North London club lost Harry Kane to Bayern Munich but have added James Maddison, Micky van de Ven, Manor Solomon and Ashley Phillips to their ranks alongside the aforementioned duo, with Pedro Porro and Dejan Kulusevski signing permanently after their loan spells last season.
Tottenham need to improve their off-the-pitch operations if they want to improve significantly on the pitch and start winning trophies anytime soon, and appointing Alemany could come as a huge boost.
