Tottenham Hotspur midfielder James Maddison has denied ever supporting Arsenal in reply to a fan on Instagram.
The former Leicester City star joined Spurs earlier this summer for £40 million and was in brilliant form on Saturday as they secured a 2-0 win against Manchester United.
Maddison took to Instagram to react to the victory, and a fan made it clear that he is impressed with the passion the 26-year-old has shown for Tottenham since his arrival.
Another fan replied that the Englishman used to be an Arsenal fan, but Maddison was quick to put him in his place, insisting he has never supported the Gunners.
“I’ve never in my life been a gooner,” the Tottenham player replied
“Just for the record.”
Maddison knows the drill and was quick to cancel any affiliation with Arsenal if one ever existed.
The North London clubs are eternal and bitter rivals, and the former Norwich City star was not going to allow anything make Tottenham fans question where his loyalty lies.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta reportedly admires the Spurs man, but Leicester wanted £60m for him in 2021, which dissuaded the Gunners.
The Foxes got relegated at the end of last term and Tottenham did not hesitate to go after him.
Maddison has hit the ground running at his new club, providing both assists in the 2-2 draw with Brentford last weekend.
Spurs watched helplessly as Arsenal challenged for the Premier League title last term while they struggled, eventually missing out entirely on Europe.
They have lost Harry Kane to Bayern Munich but have started the new campaign on an impressive note under new manager Ange Postecoglou.
Tottenham face Bournemouth, Burnley and Sheffield United in their next Premier League games before a trip to Emirates Stadium to play Arsenal on September 24, and they will be keen to go into the North London derby on the back of an impressive run.
