Celtic won the first Old Firm derby of the 2023-24 campaign courtesy of Kyogo Furuhashi’s first-half goal at the home of bitter rivals Rangers.
Rabbi Matondo put the hosts ahead a minute into the match after a header on from Kemar Roofe played Cyriel Dessers in behind the Celtic defence and he raced clear before crossing for the Wales international forward, who fired home.
However, the game was chalked off for offside as Dessers had gone a fraction too early and the flag was rightly raised.
Rangers thought they had finally opened the scoring in the 28th minute after Dessers won a ball back from the hesitating Celtic centre-back Gustaf Lagerbielke before having a free run at goal.
He drove into the box and played a pass to Roofe, who took a touch to steady himself before firing into the roof of the net.
However, VAR checked for a potential foul by Dessers, and referee Don Robertson decided the Rangers forwarded fouled Lagerbielke in the build-up after having a look at the incident at the pitchside VAR monitor.
Celtic grabbed the opener, which proved to be the winning goal some minutes later after a quick header from Matt O’Riley caught Rangers out and set Kyogo away.
The Hoops star decided against driving into the box and smashed a first-time effort past Jack Butland to give the visitors the lead at Ibrox.

The tik tok reference was a dig at Rangers attacker Todd Cantwell who did not do much in the game.
The former Norwich City star and Sutton clashed back in June, and the Sky Sports pundit did not hesitate to aim a dig at him after the game.

The result saw Celtic move to the top of the Scottish Premiership table after three victories and a draw in their opening four games of the season, while Rangers are in fourth place and four points behind the reigning champions having won two and lost the other two.
