Everton back in talks with Leeds United over Wilfried Gnonto

Everton are looking to snap up Leeds United forward Wilfried Gnonto ahead of the transfer deadline today, according to Sky Sports.

The Toffees had been keen on the Italian international all summer, and he put in a transfer request to force an exit.

Everton, one of six English clubs who have never been relegated from the Premier League since its creation in 1992, cooled their interest and Gnonto was reintegrated back into the Leeds squad, but they are back for him and are hoping to convince the Elland Road club to sell the 19-year-old.

Gnonto played in the 4-3 victory over Ipswich Town on Saturday, weighing in with a goal and was also involved in the loss to Salford City in the second round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.

He had made himself unavailable for selection after featuring in the campaign opener against Cardiff City, but has since returned to action and was looking forward to helping Leeds seal an immediate return to the Premier League.

However, Everton returning for his services could give him hope again, and the forward could be tempted to leave the West Yorkshire club before 11 pm tonight.

The Whites will once again insist he is not for sale, but it remains to be seen whether a very tempting could force their hands.

Gnonto would not mind joining the Toffees as he wants to keep playing Premier League football to boost his chances of making the Italy squad for the European Championship next summer.

Everton could lose Alex Iwobi to Fulham, and manager Sean Dyche wants a replacement, hence the renewed move for the Leeds ace.

Daniel Farke knows he cannot afford to lose any of his important players today, and holding on to his attackers is key if he wants to guide his side back to the Premier League.
