Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah reportedly rakes in an astonishing £1 million per week in total income, according to his agent Ramy Abbas Issa.
Salah’s staggering earnings at the Merseyside club have earned him a seat amongst the Premier League’s highest earners.
The Egyptian international was involved in protracted contract negotiations with Liverpool last year.
He had one year left on his existing contract and was at the centre of growing interest in his services amid links to several European heavyweights.
While Salah debated whether or not to explore other opportunities, Liverpool were eager to retain his services and initiated negotiations for a new contract with the talismanic forward.
The Guardian reports that Harvard Business School were privy to the discussions between the club and the player during contract negotiations, gaining access as part of a study.
Abbas suggested that Liverpool initially hesitated to meet their demands, leading both him and Salah to consider cutting ties with the six-time European champions.
That was until Abbas then made a counter-offer to Liverpool, offering a glimmer of hope for a resolution during the negotiations.
He said: “We are still very far apart. Mohamed isn’t going to throw away his contract because of a 5% difference in what we are asking for and what they are willing to give – it is much more than that.
“If we find a way to get Liverpool to agree to the salary we have in mind and if Mohamed performs at a level he has achieved in the past seasons.
“We conservatively expect the total amount received by Mohamed and the image rights companies over the next few years from both his playing contract and his image rights contracts to be somewhere between €54m [£46.8m] and €62m [£53.7m] per year.”
Salah ultimately penned a contract extension with Liverpool, which runs until 2025 – a deal that is reportedly worth nearly £400,000 per week.
However, the bulk of his income is understood to be covered by third parties, such as his commercial tie-ups with adidas, the Bank of Alexandria in Egypt, PepsiCo, Gucci and the real estate brand Mountain View.
Despite signing a new deal, speculation about Salah’s future continued to swirl during the summer transfer window with Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad keen on landing his signature.
They made a staggering £215m bid in an attempt to secure his services, but it fell on deaf ears as Liverpool deemed Salah untouchable at any price.
Salah has rewarded Liverpool’s unwavering confidence in his world-class ability, tallying four goals and four assists in seven matches across all competitions this term.
However, Liverpool may face a similar situation next summer, with Al-Ittihad showing no signs of giving up on their pursuit of the prolific goal-scorer.
Salah will be 32 next summer and has only one year left on his lucrative deal with Liverpool, but it will still take a mammoth fee to lure him away from the Merseyside giants – a sum the Saudis seem willing to pay.
In anticipation of a potential departure, Liverpool may soon need to begin scouting for a suitable replacement, as the future of one of their most iconic players remains uncertain.
