Paul Scholes insists Chelsea legend Eden Hazard was better in his prime than Liverpool hero Mohamed Salah

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has claimed former Chelsea star Eden Hazard was better in his prime than Liverpool star Mohamed Salah.

Fans of both clubs have continued to debate for years who impressed the most at their peak in the Premier League between the duo.

Scholes admires both players, but he believes prime Hazard was better than prime Salah due to the fact the Belgian single-handedly carried the Blues in his heyday.

“That is tough because Liverpool had a few good players at the time,” the former Red Devils midfielder said on Rio Ferdinand presents FIVE.

“Sadio Mane. Roberto Firmino with them was good.

“Hazard in that Chelsea team made a total difference in that team. I remember the FA Cup final against us (Man United), Hazard, I think he scored. He was the difference between the teams.

“So, I think just because Liverpool had a few good players as well. I think Hazard in that Chelsea team made them better.”

The Belgian joined the Blues from Lille in 2012 before leaving after seven seasons for Real Madrid.

He bagged 110 goals and 92 assists in 352 games and helped Chelsea win two Premier League titles, one FA Cup, one Carabao Cup and two Europa League titles, emerging as the PFA Players’ Player of the Year once and making the PFA Premier League Team of the Year four times.

Salah returned to the Premier League to join Liverpool from AS Roma in 2017 after an unsuccessful spell with the Stamford Bridge club in 2013-14 and has since notched 188 goals and 81 assists in 309 games for the Reds, winning a league title, one FA Cup, one Carabao Cup and one Champions League with them.

He has won the PFA Players’ Player of the Year twice, won the Premier League Golden Boot thrice and made the PFA Premier League Team of the Year thrice so far.

While Firmino and Mane both helped Liverpool tremendously before leaving, Salah has continued to shine without them and will go down in history as one of their best players of all time.

Hazard is also a Chelsea legend as they come, and it is indeed tricky to pick which one of the former Blues teammates was better during their prime.
