Tottenham Hotspur want to sign Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah

Tottenham Hotspur have approached Chelsea to ask for the services of Trevoh Chalobah on a loan deal, according to Fabrizio Romano.

However, the Blues are yet to reply given the bitter rivalry between them and Spurs and the nature of the deal the North London club wants.

Nottingham Forest also want the 24-year-old and are ready to sign him permanently, and while Chelsea appear open to doing business with them, Chalobah is not keen on joining the City Ground club.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou wants to sign another defender before the deadline tonight and the Chelsea academy graduate would be perfect for his style of play.

Eric Dier is not in the plans of the Australian, and Spurs tried to include him in a deal to sign Lloyd Kelly from Bournemouth, but the move fell through and they are now looking to make a late move for Chalobah.

He played 33 games across all competitions last term but is yet to feature for the Stamford Bridge club this season as he is not in the plans of manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Chelsea have enough options at centre-back and are keen to get Chalobah out, and a permanent deal would be preferable so as to help them balance the books and keep up with Financial Fair Play demands.

Spurs have moved so late in the window for him and it will be interesting to see whether they can manage to get a deal over the line and if the Blues will actually agree to strengthen one of their major rivals for the top four this term.
