Celtic eye move for Real Madrid keeper Andriy Lunin

Celtic are weighing up a move for Ukraine goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, according to a report from the Daily Record

The Bhoys are probably looking to sign a new goalkeeper to replace veteran Joe Hart who has a contract at Parkhead until the end of the season.

The Hoops were interested in signing him during the summer window, but they were reluctant to do business.

The Daily Record (printed edition, page 43) claims that Lunin is “frustrated” at Real Madrid for his lack of game time. With Thibaut Courtois out injured, Lunin thought he would get regular games, but that hasn’t happened.

Real Madrid signed Kepa Arrizbalaga on loan from Chelsea and the Spanish goalkeeper has been given the nod ahead of the 24-year-old goalkeeper.

His situation has alerted Celtic chiefs and he is one of the several shot-stoppers being targeted by Brendan Rodgers. Lunin is now considering his options and Celtic may have a chance here of signing him if they come up with a good offer.

The end game for Hart?

Hart has been with Celtic since 2021 and has made over 110 appearances across all competitions. He has enjoyed a successful career for both club and country but doubts remain now whether Rodgers will offer him a new deal at the club.

Probably the time is right for Celtic to look for new players and Lunin is a good option. He is looking for regular games, and Celtic can give him the right platform. At 24, he can represent the Bhoys for years to come, should he make the move.

Rodgers has Scott Bain and Benjy Siegrist as back-up options. They were also interested in signing Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhim Kelleher in the summer.
