Celtic must submit tempting bid for Andriy Lunin in January

Celtic need to replace goalkeeper Joe Hart at some point.

Hart has made over 110 appearances across all competitions but the Hoops must look ahead and bring in a new goalkeeper, either in January or next summer.

According to a recent report from Daily Record, Celtic are weighing up a move for Ukraine goalkeeper Andriy Lunin.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper is enjoying his dream of playing for Real Madrid. However, he has played just twice this season, with Carlo Ancelotti preferring on-loan goalkeeper Kepa Arrizbalaga ahead of him.

It was reported that Lunin is getting frustrated at the club for lack of game time, and in a recent interview, he expressed his desire to play regularly once again.

“At the end of last season I thought about it (leaving Madrid),” Lunin told El Chiringuito TV, as relayed by the Daily Record.

“It’s normal when you don’t play. But Real Madrid has been my dream since childhood, so I don’t want to leave.

“But you always want to play, you train to play, you want to experience the emotion of matches. We’ll see, right now I’m focused on training.”

Brendan Rodgers should not wait until the summer to make an offer for Lunin. The Bhoys must act in the January window.

Hart has a contract at the club until the end of the season, and the Hoops must not offer him a new deal.

The Scottish champions should look for the future ahead and bring in a relatively young keeper who can provide great service to the club for years to come.

He was linked with a move in the summer, but the deal didn’t materialise. His situation has now changed. At Celtic, he has the chance to win trophies and play in the Champions League.

Rodgers has Scott Bain and Benjy Siegrist as back-up options, but Lunin is head and shoulders above them.

A top-quality goalkeeper is mandatory at any top club, and Celtic must not waste this opportunity.
