Gary Neville: Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker is the best goalkeeper in the Premier League and in the world

Gary Neville insists Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker is the best in his position in the English top-flight and the world while assembling his perfect Premier League player.

The Brazil international has been superb since joining the Reds from AS Roma in the summer of 2018, establishing himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the history of the Merseyside club.

Neville believes Alisson is currently the best in the world, naming the 31-year-old so while speaking to Sky Sports.

“Hands. I’m going to go for Alisson because I think he’s the best goalkeeper in the league and in the world,” the former Manchester United star said.

The Liverpool goalie has made 240 appearances for the Reds since his arrival, winning a league title, one Champions League, one Carabao Cup, one FA Cup and one FIFA Club World Cup.

Alisson was named The Best FIFA Goalkeeper in 2019, winning the UEFA Champions League Goalkeeper of the Season award, the Yashin Trophy and IFFHS World’s Best Goalkeeper in the same year after helping the Anfield club win their sixth Champions League title.

He won the Premier League Golden Glove awards in 2018-19 and 2021-22, making the FIFA FIFPro World11 in 2019 and 2020 and also making the PFA Team of the Year in 2021-22.

Alisson has also become a key player for his country, winning the Globe Soccer Awards Best Goalkeeper of the Year in 2018 and 2019 after winning the Copa America Golden Glove and making the Copa America Team of the Tournament in 2019.

He has also proven his quality at the other end of the pitch, winning the Liverpool Goal of the Season in 2020-21 after his thumping header against West Bromwich Albion in stoppage time helped secure victory on the last day of the campaign.

The win ensured they finished third, thus qualifying for the Champions League the following season, and Alisson became the first goalkeeper in the 129-year history of Liverpool to find the back of the net.

He has kept 79 clean sheets in 181 Premier League games, making 433 saves, conceding 153 goals, helping his side to 122 wins while also weighing in with three assists.
