Harvey Elliot drools over Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah

Mohamed Salah earns at least £1m a week at Liverpool, says agent

Harvey Elliott is in awe of Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah and has hailed him as an “unbelievable” player.

In an interview with The Times, the 20-year-old says that he shares a “great relationship” with the Egyptian who has become a sort of mentor to him.

Salah has etched his name as a legendary figure at the club, and Elliott couldn’t have picked a better person to follow in his footsteps.

In 2022-23, Elliott started in 18 league matches and appeared in 32, the minutes have been harder to find this term. Liverpool have signed a raft of new midfielders and Elliott accepts that the competition for a place in the side is massive.

“He’s always helping me out. We have a great relationship when we play. Off the pitch we’re always talking and I’m always trying to learn off him,” said Elliott.

“He’s the best possible player for me to look up to, as well as play with. I’m trying to be as good as him — if that’s possible. He’s a great guy and an unbelievable player. To look up to him and everyone else in the team is great, I’m grateful to be playing with these guys.”

Can Elliott fill the Salah role in the future?

He has started just one league game before the international break. He initially started his career as a winger but Jurgen Klopp later decided to refashion him as a midfielder.

The arrivals of Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch, plus Trent Alexander-Arnold’s propensity to drift centrally have made it difficult for Elliott to break into the first-team easily.

Elliott can play in the right-wing as well, but it is almost impossible to dislodge Salah from the starting XI. However, he can be his long-term replacement in that area.

Salah was heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia in the summer transfer window, but the Reds were reluctant to sell. In recent weeks, it has been reported that Salah is still wanted by mega-rich Saudi clubs, and there are suggestions that Liverpool could be tempted to offload him in the summer if the price is right.

Should Salah leave the club, the door could open for Elliott to play as a right-winger, although Klopp may have other ideas.
