Inter Milan want West Ham midfielder Tomas Soucek

Inter Milan are eyeing up a move for West Ham midfielder Tomas Soucek for free next summer, according to Corriere dello Sport (print edition, 11/10/2023, page 11)

The Serie A giants are looking to bolster their midfield next summer and they have earmarked Soucek as one of their prime targets.

The 28-year-old joined the Hammers permanently (after a loan spell) in 2020 from Slavia Prague and has made 165 appearances for the club in all competitions.

He can play as a defensive midfielder or a box-to-box midfielder. Inter have midfielders who are technically gifted but they need someone who can physicality to the squad. That is where Soucek fits into their plan.

The Czech Republic midfielder forged a strong partnership with Declan Rice in the previous campaigns and has made seven starts already this season.

Inter are looking to exploit his contract situation. For a long time, it has been suggested that the Hammers are looking to offer him a long-term deal, but as of now, there has been no official announcement from the club.

The Athletic claimed (15 August 2023) that Soucek has signed a new four-year deal at the club l that will keep him at the London Stadium until the summer of 2027.

However, as it stands, Soucek is yet to commit to his future at the club. He has a contract – £65k-per-week deal – at West Ham until the summer of 2024, although the Hammers do have an option to extend the deal for another year.

Inter probably should look to come up with a meaningful bid in January to check if the Hammers are at all interested in letting him go.
