Jacob Murphy expected to miss Wolves v Newcastle after shoulder injury

Newcastle United lost 1-0 against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Wednesday (25 October) at St James’ Park, but the injuries to Jacob Murphy and Alexander Isak have come as a massive blow for the Magpies.

Murphy and Isak both had to be substituted because of injury. Eddie Howe said after the game that Murphy has picked up a “serious” shoulder injury, potentially he has dislocated it.

“Jacob came off with what looks like a serious injury,” Howe told TNT Sports, via BBC Sport

“We’ve got a small squad as is it. That’s probably the most disappointing thing of the night.

“It looks like a recurrence of his Isak’s groin problem and it’s a big blow. Jacob’s looks serious, potentially a dislocation of his shoulder.”

Murphy came off the bench in the 65th minute and got injured afterward. Even if he has not dislocated his shoulder, it would be unrealistic to expect that Murphy will be available to feature against Wolves this weekend.

Newcastle have a small squad, and the injuries to several key players will have hurt them badly. Already centre-back Sven Botman and winger Harvey Barnes are out for a long time, and they could possibly lose Murphy for a long spell on the sidelines as well.

According to The Chronicle, Elliot Anderson has picked up a back injury and he could be out for a few weeks at least. Isak has picked up a groin injury, which has been a recurring problem for him, and he is unlikely to be available for the next game either.

The newspaper adds that all three players – Isak, Murphy and Anderson – look set to miss the clash against Wolves. The Magpies have been in fantastic form recently, and they need to get back to winning ways when they face Wolves.
