Leeds United: Noel Tornqvist could be replacement for Illan Meslier

Leeds United are reportedly keen to sign Swedish goalkeeper Noel Tornqvist, and they are closely watching him.

According to a report from Fotbollskanalen, the 21-year-old has been tracked by a host of clubs including Leeds. The Mjallby goalkeeper has been a regular starter for the Swedish club where he has managed 11 clean sheets in 29 games.

Mjallby’s sporting director Hasse Larsson has confirmed that Leeds are one of the clubs who have looked at the talented goalkeeper but as of now, there hasn’t been any concrete approach for him. However, they are not ruling out the possibility of him going out if there’s a good offer.

“There is an interest, absolutely. We’ll see what happens, we haven’t received anything concrete. We have only received requests,” Larsson explained.

“I think we have a contract for four more years. It is difficult to answer (retaining him beyond January), but we are happy to

keep him for a while longer. Then we’ll see, it depends on what comes.”

It appears that the Whites are already planning to sign a replacement for first-choice goalkeeper Illan Meslier.

The Athletic reported that Leeds were willing to sell him in the summer but Daniel Farke refused to let him go. The Whites were also willing to offload Pascal Struijk and Cry Summerville, but the new manager wanted all of them to stay.

Spanish side Celta Vigo made inquiries in the summer for the 23-year-old goalkeeper. L’Equipe recently suggested that Meslier was close to being selected for the October international games but he couldn’t make the final cut.

There are suggestions that Meslier needs to play in a competitive league to earn a spot for the French national team. While he can manage that with Leeds again should they return to the Premier League next season, the option of moving elsewhere cannot be completely ruled out either.

Leeds already have Karl Darlow on their books and it appears that the Whites may have just found another exciting goalkeeper who could replace Meslier, should he leave Elland Road.
