National media drools over Leeds winger Daniel James

Leeds United winger Daniel James produced a brilliant performance on Wednesday (11 October) as Wales earned a 4-0 win against Gibraltar at Wrexham’s Racecourse Ground.

Goals from Ben Davies, Kieffer Moore, and Nathan Broadhead sealed the victory for Wales ahead of Sunday’s crucial Euro 2024 qualifier with Croatia.

James, who came on in 15 minutes for Wes Burns after he picked up a shoulder injury, produced a terrific performance on the night. He struck the post late on and gave his side an added injection of energy out wide.

South Wales Echo described his performance (print edition, page 44) as “solid”, while Daily Post (printed edition, 12/10/2023, page 47) noted that the winger caused “havoc” on the left-hand side.

Farke will be pleased

James has been very impressive so far for the Whites this season. The 25-year-old attacking midfielder has had tough times in recent years. He turned out to be a major flop at Manchester United, while his loan move at Fulham last season didn’t work out well either.

He is now back at Leeds, and Daniel Farke will be really pleased with what he has done so far. He scored in the 2-1 win over Bristol City prior to the international break and has managed four assists as well in the Championship.

Known for his blistering pace, James is traditionally a right winger. However, he has matured as a complete winger and has played mostly on the left under Farke. He has also switched flanks and has played as a striker as well this season.

He is approaching the prime years of his career and should look to improve his goal tally and assists this season. Definitely, he will derive loads of confidence after this fantastic performance for his country and Farke should be very pleased with the effort as well.
