Celtic produced a fantastic performance as they picked up a crucial point in the 2-2 draw against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League group game clash at Parkhead on Wednesday (25 October).
The Daily Record (October 26, page 46) has delivered the player ratings for Celtic, and the Bhoys fans will mostly agree with this.
Brendan Rodgers’ men led twice at home, first through Kyogo Furuhashi’s fourth-minute opener, then Luis Palma’s angled strike, after Antonie Griezmann converted a penalty at the second attempt. However, Alvaro Morata’s second-half header levelled the contest.
As a result, Celtic find themselves at the bottom of the group but the Hoops can take a lot of confidence from this performance.
Four players have managed an 8/10 performance. Only Reo Hatate – who was “devastated” after picking up an injury early on has got 1/10.
The Daily Record was particularly impressed with Liam Scales. They wrote: “Irishman displayed real composure in tricky situations as he played it simple and defended resolutely. Terrific effort.”
Moral boosting
While Celtic still remain at the bottom of the table and are searching for their first win in the Champions League this season, Rodgers will be very pleased with the effort his players have shown on the pitch.
Atletico are a quality team, but Celtic fought toe-to-toe and created some wonderful opportunities. In the first half, the Bhoys played with a lot of energy and courage, but the steam ran out towards the end.
After Kyogo scored the first goal, the entire atmosphere inside Celtic Park took a different dimension. Even after Antoine Griezmann scored, Celtic reacted quickly and took the lead again.
Matt O’Riley was amazing during the game, and so was Kyogo. The only worrying news that came out was the injury to Hatate who was taken off after just seven minutes after he picked up an hamstring injury.
