Rangers are looking to appoint their next manager following the sacking of Michael Beale, and Kevin Muscat is one of the names being considered.
The club’s official media partner – Heart and Hand – has clarified that Muscat would come to Ibrox immediately despite stories in the Japanese media. The former Gers defender is the manager of Yokohama Marinos where his records are impressive.
He has previously worked closely with Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou, and Rangers will be getting a style of football endorsed by Pep Guardiola, should they appoint him.
Heart and Hand tweeted: “No, Muscat would come immediately despite stories in Japanese media.”
In a separate tweet, the Rangers’ media partner clarified that the Gers have not done final interviews with him as yet.
Heart and Hand added: “No, they haven’t done final interviews yet.”
Absolute mess
The Gers find themselves in an absolute mess once again. It’s been a recurrent story for them. First, they got rid of Giovanni van Bronkhorst and replaced him with Beale.
After a poor start to the season, Beale was sacked, and the same cycle continues. The likes of Philippe Clement, Scott Parker, and Pascal Jansen are also being considered, and club legend Graeme Souness is set to be a part of the team to interview the candidates.
Frank Lampard – who has had a miserable time both at Everton and Chelsea – was also being considered but Rangers dropped the idea after seeing public backlash on social media.
Muscat did an outstanding job as a coach for Melbourne Victory and has won league titles both in Australia and in Japan.
He has a deep connection with Rangers and his previous coaching experience makes him an ideal candidate at this moment. Having said that, the club must stop this circus of managerial recruitment every year, and come up with a long-term vision while appointing the right candidate.
