West Ham remain in hunt to sign Scott McTominay

West Ham United remain interested in signing Manchester United midfielder Scott Tominay, according to the Manchester Evening News.

The Hammers were linked with a move for the Scottish international during the summer window, but the deal didn’t materialise.

Newcastle Unitedcould also make a move to sign the 26-year-old midfielder.

West Ham lost Declan Rice to Arsenal in the summer, and David Moyes is looking to add more quality to his midfield options.

Since graduating from the club academy, McTominay has made 215 appearances for the senior side, but his future has come under speculation.

McTominay will consider his options in the January window, which means a potential exit cannot be completely ruled out.

West Ham perfect for McTominay

It is frustrating that McTominay doesn’t play enough under Erik ten Hag. His quality is undeniable and Chris Sutton hailed him as ‘one of the best midfielders in Europe’ in September.

He is entering the prime years of his career and should move to a club where he will get regular games.

The Magpies could be in the market for a new midfielder, especially if Sandro Tonali faces a lengthy ban for breaching betting rules in Italy.

McTominay is a technically gifted midfielder who works extremely hard in the middle of the pitch. He has an uncanny habit of scoring goals every now and then.

The Hammers can also offer him European football, which may be appealing.

Michail Antonio recently said the decision rests with McTominay – whether he wants to sit back and play a bit-part role or leave his boyhood club and show everyone what he can do.

He has scored two goals in only two starts in the Premier League, and Moyes must do everything to convince him to move to West Ham in January.
