Rangers survived a nervy finish to beat Sparta Prague at Ibrox on Thursday night (9 November) in the Europa League.
The Gers earned a 2-1 victory and they have strengthened their hopes of progressing to the next round of the competition, with goals coming from Danilo and Todd Cantwell in the first half.
Lee McCulloch was highly impressed with the performance of the Gers youngster Ross McCausland who came in the second half for Cantwell.
The BBC pundit hailed him as “tremendous” and “absolutely brilliant” on Sportssound (via BBC Sport) as he produced an assured performance. McCulloch said that the 20-year-old looked full of confidence and he wasn’t unfazed by the magnitude of the game.
“McCausland was absolutely brilliant. Bubbly, has pace, technical first touch. Tremendous tonight,” said McCulloch.
“Playing in this cauldron, given the magnitude of this game, he looked full of confidence. I think the fans really took to him. He really gave the stadium a lift.”
Huge win
Rangers were clearly the best of the two sides. The Beers could have easily scored more goals but they missed several chances to kill the game off.
In the end, the game became very nervy when Lukas Haraslin scored in the 77th minute and Sparta pushed for an equaliser. Eventually, Rangers held on for a crucial three points and they stay second in Group C , two points behind Real Betis.
Ibrox was absolutely buzzing on the night, and Rangers players played with a high tempo. It can be said that Philippe Clement has already made a huge impact on the side and the Gers are expected to improve further going forward.
Clement wants his players to play with freedom, and not be afraid to make mistakes, and at times Rangers played some vintage football, something we didn’t see under Michael Beale.
