Celtic are keeping a close eye on South African wonderkid Luke Baartman, according to a report from The Sun.
The Hoops are always on the lookout for exciting young prospects, and they are impressed with the 17-year-old who is rated as one of the “best prospects” in his country and has got “big potential”.
The Scottish champions, however, are likely to face competition from clubs in the Premier League, and also from Championship outfit Leeds United.
The teenager who plays for Cape Town Spurs operates as a striker and he made his Premier Division debut against Orlando Pirates in October.
Big talent
The Sun claims that Baartman is a huge prospect and therefore he is tipped for a bright future ahead.
Celtic have a reputation for scouting young talents and nurturing them into fantastic players. If the scouts feel that the youngster is really good enough, they should look to strike a deal and take him to Scotland.
The South African Under-17 starlet is still at school, but it won’t be a big issue to lure him away. Celtic have watched him closely in recent months and have been following his progress.
The senior squad is choc-a-bloc with top players and therefore it is highly unlikely that Baartman will make the senior grade easily. The club do not view him as a first-team player, but they do recognize his potential.
In recent years, Celtic have benefitted from picking up talents from Asia, and they are looking to tap in from the South Africa football market as well.
