Gordon Parks predicts outcome of Lazio v Celtic

Celtic will travel to Rome in a crucial do-or-die Champions League game on Tuesday night to face Lazio.

Ahead of the match, the Daily Record journalist, Gordon Parks (27 November, page 36) has suggested that he doesn’t see the Bhoys picking up a win away from home.

The Hoops have been very poor in Europe this season and suffered a humiliating defeat against Atletico Madrid away from home in their previous game.

“No. Celtic’s Champions League record doesn’t lie and winning in Rome will sadly be another step too far for them,” said Parks.

Can Celtic win in Rome?

Celtic find themselves at the bottom of Group E with only one point. They have a -9 goal difference, and it’s really difficult for them to secure a place in the knockout rounds.

The Bhoys have to win their next two games to give themselves a chance, but it looks difficult. Lazio are second in the table with 7 points, one point behind Atletico.

Brendan Rodgers should be concerned with Celtic’s recent form, although they are leading the domestic table quite comfortably.

Celtic lost 6-0 against Atletico in their last Champions League game. After that, they bounced back strongly in the league with a thumping 6-0 win against Aberdeen.

However, in the last game, they managed a 1-1 draw against Motherwell. Celtic lost 2-1 at Parkhead against Lazio and it will take a strong performance to get a win in Rome.

The record says that Celtic defeated Lazio away from home in 2019/20 in the Europa League. However, based on recent form, it looks like they will need a massive effort to get a point here, let alone a win.
