Liverpool are interested in signing Brazilian centre-back Lucas Beraldo, according to a report from the Sunday People.
A host of Premier League clubs are keen to sign the 20-year-old centre-back including Newcastle United, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
Of all the clubs, it appears that the Reds have taken a lead over others as they have spoken to the player’s camp already ahead of a potential move.
The Reds may face strong competition from Newcastle (26 November, page 51) who are looking to bolster their injury-ravaged squad.
The left-footed defender is a regular member of Sau Paulo’s senior squad and he has made 21 appearances in the league so far, scoring one goal.
Brazilian connection
Over the years, Liverpool have signed players from Brazil who have gone on to win trophies for the club. The likes of Fabinho and Roberto Firmino played key roles for the Reds under Jurgen Klopp, while Alisson still remains at the club.
The experienced goalkeeper could play a big role in convincing the youngster to move to Anfield. It looks like he is a highly-rated young talent, and could enjoy a long-term future at Liverpool should he make the move.
Liverpool were looking to sign a new defender in the summer but they focussed on bolstering their midfield instead.
However, the scenario is likely to change in January and next summer. It is unclear whether Joel Matip will be offered a new deal. It looks like he won’t renew his contract, and in that case, Liverpool must look for his replacement.
The likes of Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez have struggled with injuries in recent seasons, and Klopp should be aiming to bolster that department.
