Luciano Spaletti shares fitness update on Arsenal midfielder Jorginho

Italy manager Luciano Spaletti has confirmed that Arsenal midfielder Jorginho still has “stitches” in his head but he hopes to include him in the upcoming Euro qualifier games.

Jorginho was brilliant during the Gunners’ 3-1 win against Burnley last Saturday at the Emirates Stadium but could not play the last few seconds of the match after he got injured.

Mikel Arteta confirmed that the Italy international had a few bad cuts during the game, and it seems the doctors had to stitch certain areas to prevent the blood from gushing out.

Spaletti has said today (13 November) in his press conference that they need to be very careful with him, but at the same time, they need him on the pitch.

“Jorginho has stitches in his head from his last game. I think it was the first time he went for a header in his career,” said Spaletti, as quoted by Football Italia.

“We need him for his feet. I couldn’t wait to call Jorginho because of what he told me the first time we spoke and the messages he sent. He’s always been determined to return. He was the first one to arrive yesterday before dinner, then Raspadori and Di Lorenzo.”

Italy will face North Macedonia on 17 November and Ukraine on 20 November, and it remains to be seen if Jorginho plays some minutes in those games. It looks like Spaletti will use him at some point but only if the midfielder is physically perfect.

Jorginho has emerged as an important player for the Gunners in the absence of Martin Odegaard who is currently injured.

Against Burnley, he produced another controlling and quietly impressive performance and it comes as no surprise that Arteta considers him as an important part of his plans.

According to the Telegraph, no player in Arteta’s team talks more than Jorginho. The 31-year-old defensive midfielder brings his quality and a wealth of experience to the side, and Italy definitely will need him.
